Our History

Because Beautiful Hair Is a Journey

Founding owners Charles “Buddy” Dudley and David Honeycutt opened Charles David Salon in 1995 in the upscale community of Norwell, Massachusetts. Charles was an up-and-coming colorist and David a hotelier — together they brought beautiful hair coloring and genuine hospitality under one roof, and the rest is history.

Soon after opening, Charles’ work was featured in Vogue, kicking off a run that saw the salon named one of Salon Today magazine’s “100 Fastest Growing Salons in America” for eight consecutive years. After three expansions, the salon moved to its much larger flagship home in Hanover, Massachusetts in 2008 — where it remains today. Over the next eighteen years the company grew to three locations, adding salons in Plymouth and on the Village Green in The Pinehills.

In 2025 we celebrated our 30-Year Anniversary while winning Best of the South Shore’s BOSS Women’s Salon and BOSS Hair Colorist — still an area leader after three decades of dedication, education and hospitality.

Alongside the Norwell Women’s Club, our team provided hair & makeup for a show raising over $14,000 for South Shore charities.

Buddy & David sit on South Shore Hospital’s President’s Circle and donate all proceeds from an annual Benefit Day — over $20,000 every year — to the hospital’s cancer center.

Frequently Asked Questions

When scheduling, new guests may be asked to secure their first appointment with a $50 non-refundable deposit. We ask for a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to move or change your appointment to keep your deposit active.

On your first visit, please confirm your appointment via our text system, email, or a phone call, before 24 hours of your appointment start time, to avoid cancellation.

Our service providers work on commission, not an hourly wage — a last-minute cancellation or no-show means they simply lose that pay. We prefer 48 hours’ notice and require no less than 24 hours. Cancellations inside 24 hours will be charged 50% of the service value; a no-show will be charged 100%, and you may be asked to keep a card on file for future appointments.

We pride ourselves on keeping appointments on time. Please let us know if you’ll be more than 15 minutes late so we can make arrangements — we’ll do our best to accommodate you, but may need to reschedule as a missed appointment.

We understand life happens — as a courtesy, each guest receives one accidentally missed appointment at no charge. Subsequent missed appointments are charged at $50.

We ask parents to make outside arrangements for children during appointments — with hot tools and chemicals in use, we’re not a safe environment for unsupervised children or infants. For safety, we generally schedule children ages 10 and older for services.

Our guests’ satisfaction is our number one priority. If you need an adjustment, please reach out within 48 hours of your original service — note that shampooing within 48 hours can affect what adjustments are possible. Adjustments can be made, but no refunds are issued; by booking, guests agree to pay the full service total upon completion.
